September On Pace To Record 60+ Mass Shootings, Fifth Month In 2022

There were 30 U.S. mass shootings in the first 12 days of September, bringing this year's total to 479. The monthly totals: January: 34, February: 36, March: 42, April: 57, May: 63, June: 65,July: 89, August: 63 and September: 30. There were 488 mass shootings by this date last year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The archive never had logged a month of 60+ mass shootings before 2020. It happened five times in 2020, six times in 2021, and now four times so far in 2022. September is on pace to do the same.


The Gun Violence Archive (GVA) is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 2013 to provide free online public access to accurate information about gun-related violence in the U.S. GVA collects and checks for accuracy comprehensive information about gun-related violence in the U.S. and then disseminates it online, primarily on its website and summary ledgers. It is an online archive of gun violence incidents collected from over 7,500 law enforcement, media, government and commercial sources daily in an effort to provide near-real time data about the results of gun violence. GVA is an independent data collection and research group with no affiliation with any advocacy organization.
