Road-Rage Gunfire on the Rise Nationwide

From 2014 to 2023, the number of people shot in road rage incidents surged more than 400 percent, reports The Trace. Angry drivers shot 3,095 people over that decade, or nearly one every day, with one is four getting killed. The data shows that the number of road rage shootings tracked by the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive went up by 23% each year over the past decade, a trend happening across the country.-

Texas, Florida, and California — the nation’s three most populous states — lead the pack for these road-rage incidents. The city with the most gun-involved road rage incidents and shooting victims was Houston. The roots of that may come from gun laws in Texas, where it’s easier than ever to tote a firearm in public because of a 2021 law that allows people to conceal carry without a permit. Studies have shown that the presence of a gun can impel some people to act more aggressively.
