Orlando police are searching for a suspect who shot seven people Sunday morning after a fight broke out, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The fight took place in downtown Orlando at around 2 a.m. All seven victims were given medical attention and are in stable condition. Police are working with local businesses to get video footage of the incident. Video posted on social media shows several people running after hearing gunshots. Minutes later, the video shows police attending to people lying on the ground.
The shooting comes after a spike in violence in Orlando. The police department is planning to gain more control over the nightlife scene to subdue the violence. Recently, several shootings have taken place in the city, including a 24-year-old man found shot last May. Several shootings also took place last Halloween. In May 2021, a veteran was shot and killed after a fight. Two hours earlier on the same night, a 16-year-old was fatally shot in a gas station. A proposal is pending to require permits and private parking lots for businesses that stay open past midnight. Downtown Orlando has over 100 bars and nightclubs that attract around 15,000 people on weekend nights.
