Five Dead, Six Injured In Downtown Louisville Bank Shooting

Connor Sturgeon, 23, an employee of Louisville's Old National Bank, used a rifle to kill four people — including a close friend of the governor — at the bank on Monday. Sturgeon also is dead and at least six were injured, including a police officer. The shooting, the 15th mass killing in the U.S., country this year, comes just two weeks after a former student killed three children and three adults at a Christian elementary school in Nashville. Police in Louisville arrived as gunshots were still being fired inside Old National Bank and exchanged fire with the shooter, who died, Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said it wasn't clear whether the shooter killed himself or was shot by officers, the Associated Press reports..

A witness who was inside the building saw a man with a "long assault rifle" fire multiple shots inside the bank on the first floor, near the conference room area, reports WHAS-TV. . "He just started firing," the witness said. "I didn't see his face. We were in the conference room. Whoever was next to me got shot, their blood's on me." Another witness, who works in an office building facing the bank, said the shooter and law enforcement officers got into a "shootout." Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said two of his close friends were killed in the shooting and another was injured. “I have a very close friend that didn’t make it today. And I have another close friend who didn’t, either,” he told reporters, choking up. “And one who’s at the hospital, that I hope is going to make it through.”
