Natalia Bowser

Western Region

Ms. Bowser was raised in Montana and attended the University of Montana where she received her undergraduate degree in Criminology. She jumped quickly into her career with the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), where she remained for 14 years, working in finance and operations. Upon leaving MHP she became the Director of the Montana Board of Crime Control (MBCC), where she remained for 7 years. MBCC is the state administering agency for criminal justice planning, policy development and grant administration working to reduce crime and victimization statewide. She moved into the role of Innovation Chief for the Montana Department of Corrections in 2025. Uniting expertise in project management, security technology, research and data, safety science, and capital infrastructure improvements, the Office of Innovation champions continuous improvement and transformative strategies that keep departmental operations agile, effective, and prepared for the future.


She believes that partnership, collaboration, trust, and follow-through are the cornerstones of successfully achieving viable solutions. When critical buy-in is secured and people are supported, meaningful change and improvements can and will occur.


 Ms. Bowser serves on the National Criminal Justice Association Board of Directors.
