Brenda Cook

Southern Region, Alternate

I have spent over 30 years living and working in Mississippi. Over the past 19 years, I have held the lead role in a correctional facility, developing and training cognitive behavioral curricula for 3 to 6-month programs, assisting to rehabilitate adult male offenders identified as having substance use disorders. Proudly, this program has the lowest recidivism rate in the state of Mississippi. I am a Certified Criminal Justice Associate (CCJA); and a certified Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) and Domestic Violence Facilitator. Also, for 18 years, I have managed the program's RSAT grant; and maintained compliance with state and county guidelines for this program.

My professional efforts extend to the local drug courts throughout the state. I currently serve as President of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Association of Drug Court Professionals (MADCP) and I hold professional memberships with the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MAAP), American Correctional Association (ACA), National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA), Association of Women Executives in Corrections (AWEC) and International Criminal Justice Association (ICJA). Throughout my professional career, I have learned to work with offenders and correctional personnel to assist offenders in changing their mindset and behaviors.  This, respectfully, is one of the main goals in corrections for a better society.
