Regional SAA TTA Training

The NCJA, in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, will host a series of regional training sessions to help SAAs meet the new strategic planning requirements that will be part of the FY19 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant applications. This training will focus on the elements of successful strategic planning, evidence-based practice, data and analysis for policy and program evaluation, and coordination with other components of the juvenile and criminal justice system.

Regional Strategic Planning Training on April 20-21, 2020 at the Iowa Department of Public Safety in Des Moines, IA


This training, held at the Iowa Department of Public Safety (Ole O. Roe training room, Pape State Office Building, 215 East 7th Street on the Iowa Capitol Complex) will focus on the fundamentals of strategic planning, preparing for the annual review and update due in 2020, federal reporting requirements (NIBRS, Death in Custody) and 1:1 review and support as you work through your current state Byrne JAG strategic plan.

There is not a reserved room block for this training event. The meeting space abuts Des Moines' "East Village" (a downtown neighborhood, on the east side of the Des Moines River and near the Capitol Building).  Among area options in the link, East Village hotels include: Embassy Suites, AC Hotel by Marriott, and Staybridge Suites. Funding to cover the costs of participant travel is available upon request. They are paid on a reimbursement request following the training. Limits are established by the federal GSA rates and will be reimbursed as follows:

  • Airfare/commercial transportation:  $600 max

  • Lodging:  $109/night + tax for 2 nights

  • Meal & incidental:  $61 for one day and $45.75 for two days. Total allowable $152.50

  • Ground/baggage fees:  $100max
