3 Football Players Dead On VA Campus; 4 Idaho Students Killed
Three people were killed and two others wounded in a shooting at a parking garage at the University of Virginia. The episode happened on a bus of students who were returning from an off-campus trip, the Associated Press reports. Unversity President Jim Ryan identified the suspect as Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., who was in custody on Monday. The university’s emergency management issued an alert on Sunday night notifying the campus community of an “active attacker firearm.” The message warned students to shelter in place following a report of shots fired on the northern outskirts of campus. Classes were canceled Monday.
The university's police department posted a notice online saying multiple police agencies including the state police were searching for a suspect who was considered “armed and dangerous.” Four University of Idaho students were found dead at a home near campus Sunday in what police and school officials described as a homicide. Police in Moscow, Id., responded around noon to a call about an unconscious person south of the university of about 11,500 students. The university emailed students that all Monday classes would be canceled “out of respect for these fellow Vandals,” referencing the school’s mascot.
