To blogger Craig W. Floyd who writes Citizens Behind the Badge, it seems inappropriate to treat rapper Snoop Dogg with such deference after he “has spewed hatred toward police in his songs.” Floyd cites some of the rapper’s offensive lyrics in his blog. Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus Jr., carried the Olympic torch in Paris and is a prominent part of NBC's Olympics coverage, occasionally with his longtime pal, Martha Stewart.
Floyd is also critical of Paris because city leaders in 2006 named a street in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis after prominent dissident Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was convicted of the murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. “It appears that the people of Paris, France have a warped sense of heroism and honor,” Floyd writes. “When giving acknowledged cop-haters like Snoop Dogg the attention and privilege that comes with carrying the Olympic torch or being a featured personality on the network bringing the Olympics to millions of Americans, they are legitimizing the demonization of law enforcement that has been so prevalent the last four years.”
