Fear and Violence in Communities

Violence and the fear of violence have devastating effects on communities’ quality of life.  Criminal justice practitioners, health system representatives and the media must recognize the relationships between the response to violence and the treatment and prevention of future violence; and they must engage communities on how best to prevent violence, encouraging public and private collaboration at all levels.  Accurate reporting of crime and analysis of actual crime trends is critical in order to enable appropriate use of crime reduction strategies.  Trust and confiden
