Policy: Federal Funding
Strategies
Federal funds, especially when integrated and directed through state
criminal justice agencies, help to ensure that justice is served and
that the public safety is protected. Whether from the Department
of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of
Health and Human Services or another executive agency, the expectation
is always that complete accountability will be present. By
directing funds through the designated state criminal justice agency,
the public is assured that the needs of the state are being addressed
with an understanding of the overall status of justice issues within the
state. The use of a comprehensive, data driven state strategic
plan that incorporates the need for essential criminal justice services
is critical to the appropriate dissemination of federal funds at the
state level. By using this coordinated approach, funding can best
be directed to the specific issues and needs of individual
communities.
