Letters to Congress

Guided by a 17-18 member Board of Directors, the NCJA serves as the formal mechanism for informing the Congress of state, tribal and local criminal and juvenile justice needs and accomplishments. To see some of the letters the NCJA has sent to Congress and the Administration on behalf of its members please click on the links below.

In addition, NCJA has sent a number of letters to Congressional leadership regarding budget and appropriations priorities. Those letters are linked on the budget and appropriations pages.

Current Letters

NCJA sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee expressing support for the Justice Reinvestment Act View the letter

Previous Letters

On August 3, 2008 NCJA submitted comments to the Office of Management and Budget on the proposed guidance to agencies on the implementation of the Transparency Act. View the letter.

On March 21 NCJA joined with a broad coalition of other groups in urging members of Congress to co-sponsor the bipartisan Second Chance Act.  View the text of the letter.
