NCJA/BJA Regional Workshops on Evidence Based Policy and
Practice
The National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) and the Bureau of
Justice Assistance (BJA) invite all state administering agencies to
attend the 2010 Regional Workshops on Evidence Based Policy and
Practice, Evidence Based Policy and Practice in
Action. The Regional Workshops are free to attend and open to all
state administering agencies.
Dates:
Midwest
Region: March 17–18, Minneapolis, MN
West
Region: April 7–8, Phoenix, AZ
South
Region: April 28–29, Columbia, SC
Northeast
Region: May 25-26, Philadelphia, PA
The workshop sessions will run for the full day on Wednesday, ending
on Thursday at noon. On Thursday afternoon all participants are invited
to an optional site visit sponsored by the NCJA member host
state. Please note: you do not need to attend the workshop in your
region, however all members of your team must attend the same
regional meeting.

The goal of this workshop series is to:
- Increase knowledge of evidence based policy and practice (EBPP) by
state criminal justice decision makers and researchers.
- Develop and strengthen communications networks among EBPP subject
matter experts, state decision makers and researchers.
- Provide substantive information about and practical examples of
implementing and managing EBPP.

Participants:
SAAs will be asked to invite a team of no more than five criminal
justice decision makers (including the SAA) from their state to attend
the sessions. Teams should be made up of people in the following
positions:
- SAAs
- Chairs and/or members of state criminal justice boards and
commissions
- Key members of state legislatures
- Governors’ criminal justice policy advisors
- SAC directors
- Researchers
- State grant managers
- Regional or local criminal justice planners

On February 19, Acting BJA Director Jim Burch sent a
letter to all SAAs encouraging them to attend the 2010 Regional
Workshops on Evidence Based Policy and Practice. In the letter, he
highlighted the importance of evidence-based practices and indicated BJA
believes that participation in these regional meetings is an appropriate
use of JAG administrative funds in the states. View
